Diane, I just finished your book and really enjoyed it. I felt that you explained things really clearly which was helpful as I am not JW. I am passing the book along to friends who have had questions aobut the life of a Jehovah's Witness.

To Mimilly and all my fellow Canadians,
Happy Thanksgiving
I have so much in my life to be grateful for, and although I try to remember all the time, it is good to have a day to stop and reflect.
double edge, I am cooking about the same things I think Americans would eat for their Thanksgiving, Roasted turkey, stuffing, snowy mashed potatoes (the ones with cream cheese and sour cream) vegetables, salad , pumpkin pie all all those sorts of good things. We will all eat too much and have to go for a walk after dinner.

COUP D' 'ETAT
by TR inwho appoints the writing staff at 'hovah hq?
i ask because it would be cool if there was a way to replace these writers with ones who would start to put into print what we want to see.
who, if any, of the gb decide what articles are used and what is not used?

sex outside of marriage
by xploration ini'm not a jw but my girlfriend has been brought up with this faith and is unsure on the decsions she has tomake concerning out relationship.
we are madly in love and i can honestly say i could spend the rest of my life with her but i will be going to med school in about 18 months so marriage is not a valid option.
we have an active sexlife, but do not participate in full intercourse.

Xploration,
Sometimes love isn't enough. Her religion results in a completely different culture. Learn about her religion, and the consequences that she can experience for breaking the rules. If she truly believes in the JW religion, then what she wants for her future may be different than what you want. You both need to talk openly and realistically about what each of you wants out of life, and how the ideas will mesh together.
My daughter just broke up with her JW boyfriend last week. We have dealt with this mixed relationship stuff for 2 years. E mail me if you want.

Hi Theta,
I have heard that there are a lot of Jehovahs Witness in the small communities along the highway from Edmonton to Jasper, and if you continue into BC, Clearwater is along that same path. I wonder why.
By the way, I am in Edmonton.

Country Girl,
You hit it on the head. I am a worldly person and I think the whole JW religion/sect/cult is ludicrous. Everything you said...exactly right. I look at the JW teenager I know and even he makes fun of some of this stuff, and what is even more crazy, he still thinks JWs are right. Anyone I tell about it, can hardly believe it, it sounds so weird.
I just shake my head.

how did you guys do it?
by Realist ini have to say i admire everyone who was strong enough to leave the wt organization.
alone these horrible stories about armageddon must scare the hell out of everyone who was brought up with it or who was in the org for several years.
hell even to me they sound really frightning and i don't believe in this nonsense.. secondly you loose most of all of your friends!.

As an outsider looking in, I was just floored by the degree of the mind control exerted by the WT. Even more strongly, I respect the courage it takes to open your mind and take that actual step through the open door. Some of you were given a little shove, but either way, to make up your mind to look at the issues with an open mind and to think is a huge step. Then, to actually LEAVE what is familiar, your family, friends, that insular society, takes guts. To admit you made a mistake takes guts. To admit you were part of a cult and you have regained your life takes courage. Give yourself some credit.

JGnat Says Hi
by jgnat ini have been wandering around the board for a while now, and have decided it is time to contribute a bit of my history.
i have described my involvement with the witnesses as being from the outside looking in.
my sweet honey has been trying for two years to get reinstated.

Jgnat, you are incredibly tolerant and loving with your honey. Your son's life is not easy. Most people have no idea about what schizophrenia about, and how bizarre life can be with someone with schizophrenia (sort of like the JWs). Our medical science is just not good enough. The drugs help. Without them, there would be no option but institutions, but for many, life is still far from normal or happy.
